Hawthornden Foundation is a private charitable organization supporting contemporary writers and the literary arts. Established by Drue Heinz, the noted philanthropist and patron of the arts, the Foundation provides residential retreats for creative writers from all disciplines at Hawthornden Castle in Midlothian, Scotland, and at Casa Ecco, on Lake Como in Italy. In 2024 Hawthornden will open a new non-residential retreat—Hawthornden Brooklyn—in New York. In addition, the Foundation sponsors the annual Hawthornden Prize, one of Britain's oldest and foremost literary awards, and provides grant support to other literary programs.

In 2014, documentary photographer Carolina Sandretto set out to find and photograph, with a 1950s medium-format camera, the remaining cinemas from that golden era. Slipcase and companion book to Ross's Hurricane Waves, to accompany a landmark exhibition at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art.

Seen & Imagined offers the first comprehensive survey of Ross's work, and is the first art book to offer an augmented reality 3D “pop up” experience, via an app and a smartphone. The slipcase is wrapped in one of Ross's LED waves, and a series of interior gatefolds allow "deep dives" into extreme details of selected images. 

Design oversight spanned initial image editing and sequencing to the press check at Meridian Printing, Rhode Island.

Steve Schapiro, known for his iconic photographs of the 1960s counterculture, documented contemporary transformational festivals across the U.S. Photographs were rotated and bled into one another to reflect the immersive nature of the festival experience. For the cover, artist Becca Mann was commissioned to re-create a tie-dye pattern from a photo detail, which was printed on cloth and blind-stamped with the title.
